We are honored to have with us tonight Dr. Ashley D. Farmer joining us from Austin, Texas, where she teaches in the department of history and African and African Diaspora Studies at the University of Texas. Her new book, Queen Mother, Black Nationalism, Reparations, and the Untold Story of Oddly Moore, is a finalist for the National Book Critic Circle Award and the Association for the Study of African-American Life and History Book Prize. Her first book, Remaking Black Power: How Black Women Transformed an Era, was a finalist for the Stone Book Award, among others. And she is a co-editor of the Black Power series published with NYU Press and the Black Women’s History Series published with UNCC Press. You’ll want to buy a copy of Queen Mother and we encourage you to pick it up from an independent bookstore locally or on bookshop.org. Other good options include Our Neighbors the Quarter Bookstore on Madison Avenue and Sisters Uptown Bookstore on Amsterdam Avenue.
